Jars & Coffee with Maddy.

During the last Summer in the City I finally had the opportunity to meet Maddy, whose beautiful drawings I've been stalking on the internet for a couple of years now. We chatted for a bit during SitC and at a YouTube Creator Space party in October, but until today we hadn't really hung out together. Maddy had told me about Hunterian Museum before, and since I've set myself the goal to go on a museum sketching visit once very month, this trip was simply unavoidable.

The Hunterian Museum is filled with animals in jars and rows and rows of skulls. Very attractive. I'm not quite sure what the appropriate way is to react to this museum, but we couldn't help but 'awww' when we saw a baby armadillo in a jar. Armed with some adorable folding chairs, notebooks and a bunch of pencils (Maddy has one of those rollup pencil cases. So jealous!) we found a little corner and furiously scribbled away for a couple of hours.

After we got tired of staring at animals in jars, Maddy took me to this gorgeous café called Wild & Coffee Company. We had a delicious cappuccino and mocha while sitting in the 'nook,' a tiny room in the corner of the café, with wooden panels from floor to ceiling.

I really needed to get out of the house after spending the last couple of days sitting on my bed, applying for jobs and eating pasta and bagels. Hopefully this will be the start of a new tradition.

Maddy creates some of my favorite art in the world, so don't forget to check out her drawings at indievisualjournal. The last picture is one of her sketches from our trip.

I'd love to visit one day, I go to art galleries a lot but rarely museums- especially ones as specific as this one! I think I heard someone else talking about this before, and was intrigued.
Lovely photos! xx

This sounds like my perfect day. I must check out that museum yet. Have you been to the Natural History Museum in London yet? The Darwin wing has something very similar to what you described, only probably smaller.

I've never heard of the Hunterian. It sounds fascinating though so I'll definitely visit in the summer.
