The Duke of Uke.

When I was in London with Lidewij in October to visit Marion, I bought a ukulele. I'd been wanting to buy one for a while (it was one of the things on my Next Up list), but I hadn't been able to find any nice ukuleles in the Netherlands. So one morning we just decided to find a ukulele shop and DO IT. And boy, did we find a nice shop. The Duke of Uke. All the walls were filled with ukuleles and when I saw this one, it was love at first sight.

It's slightly bigger than a 'normal' ukulele and I really like the sound it produces. It took me a while to learn some chords, because I kept confusing them with guitar chords. I know about 8 chords now and for the last couple of weeks I've basically been playing the same songs over and over.

First Aid Kit has been one of my favorite bands for a while, but I like them even more since I've seen them perform live in Amsterdam. Their song Ghost Town is exactly right for my voice and I sing it at least a couple of times every day. I really like the fact that my ukulele doesn't overpower my voice. I keep it right next to my desk and I can't imagine not having it around.

The second video is the cutest thing. It's a live performance of First Ait Kit in Central Park. Apparently this guy heard from a friend that the girls would be there, and he jumped out of his bed and ran all the way there. They decided to play one last song for him.

And let's not forget the beautiful Dan Mangan and his wonderful song Leaves, Trees, Forest.

I must pursue First Aid Kit further.
